To you, what constitutes a good sense of humor?

I love puns and word play.

Puns are one of the few forms of humor that doesn’t have a target. No one is ever the butt of a pun and that is what I like about them.

The ability to see what is funny in a situation, quick wit, I think that’s a good sense of humor. Understanding what will be funny to your audience. Not mean-ness. Though I do find snarky sarcasm funny, not the hurtful kind.

And yes, sometimes I am funny, or so I am told.

In my own opinion, ya for sure. Many others may not agree lol

It is difficult for me take anything but the most dire things without a little goofiness. And even when things are a bit too real, I am often the one still floating on hope and cracking (admittedly very stupid) jokes.

Not sure how I’d define a good sense of humor tho tbh. A willingness to laugh at yourself definitely counts for something. Knowing better than to punch down while also meeting people on their level is a plus too. Being able to direct attention, something like a stage magician but with words, also plays a big part in the equation.

Ig a good sense of humor is one that takes into account other people (socially, emotionally, and practically (as in using how their presence affects the room) all at once) while also subverting expectation. Even better if the two are playing off each other. Crowd work is often considered cheap by standups, but it’s a great way to break down barriers and get a room onto the same page…when they know how to use that tool effectively, at least.

Apparently not, because I detest webcomics. And people think they are wildly funny and so entertaining. I think once or twice in 10 years I’ve smirked at a webcomic.

As far as what constitutes a good sense of humor I think there are a few ways to see it. One way to see it is being able to “take a joke,” to know that you shouldn’t be offended depending on the joke.

Another way to see it is the actual understanding/ability to make jokes and to know when to do so.

A third way to see it is with your eyes.

    …ok I’ll leave. :P

I have the best sense of humor ever. Everything is funny to me. I am completely incapable of taking anything seriously.

If everything is funny, then nothing is.
Therefore your sense of humor doesnt sense humor at all.

Being able to detect or even conjure humor in places that others can not would imply a stronger sense for it than average tho.

Consider how being more able than most to acutely identify or follow the source of a scent is generally seen as a having a stronger sense of smell than average. I dont see why the same wouldn’t apply here.

Personally, I prefer wry humor. It’s sort of difficult to encounter in the wild while staying wholesome. Nothing dark and twisted for the sake of it, but wit is somehow comforting in the right place. And clever is so engaging…

    I like to think so.

Someone with a good sense of humor understands why jokes are funny. Similar to how everyone can enjoy music, but a musician enjoys it differently.

Those people know how to craft a joke, and how to adjust timing to make it funnier, and are the first to laugh or at least acknowledge when that’s a good one.

I can laugh at deadpan, satire, parody, dark, puns, self deprecating humor but find it hard to laugh at cringe comedy. I generally get when something is supposed to be funny, but it can be harder with some like satire.
I can’t tell whats considered “good” though.
