Don’t test that. Seriously. I hate you just for thinking about testing it. In fact, go off the internet and make a baby happy, now!

They probably do, in a way.

The typical reaction of a baby will be to start crying loudly, which will alert the rest of the tribe that will then make life uncomfortable for the offender. So part of a more complex social fight response.

I have also seen babys suddenly become very quite and lay completely still when startled by a situation that confuses them and that they can’t sort out yet.
Seems to me to be some kind of hide response, nearest they can do to taking flight.

Technically yes, but it’s unformed. Early studies currently are looking into how this may lead to early formation of anxiety disorders.

But we don’t really know for sure

Babies have basically 2 responses to being scared:

    • cry
    • freeze

They serve a similar purpose as fight or flight, where crying would alert the parents and they moght fight, and freezing might avoid the fight, essentially flight.

Checkout yt videos of people throwing cheese at crying babies, they are essentially confusing the baby to a point of freezeing, similar to how they might react to a bew and unfamiliar danger.

The sleep deprivation of early parenthood does a lot to break you of social norms.

A baby might not be able to, but 6 year old me ran away from home when my older brother was chasing me around the apartment and I felt scared and like… I just ran for the door…

    was outside wandaring for hours…

    scariest day of my life…

(mom called the police and they were just searching the neighborhood)

Scary stuff. I hope it ended well.

… wait, dd it? Have they found you? Or are you still wandering the streets right now? (Blink twice if you need help.)

      • lmfao…

that was like nearly 2 decades ago, yea I got scared eventually and went back home… I still have that mental image of being in that plaza and walking towards the direction of home, and saw mom with a bunch of cops just looking around, then my mom saw me

it was before my family emigrated, when we were in Guangzhou, China

My mom later told me there was (allegedly) a lot of kidnappings in China and I could’ve gotten kidnapped… 👀

i was considering NSQ but did not mean it as a “serious” question but rather a funny observation.

on a second thought, you might be right.

on a third thought, i don’t want to overthink this

on a fourth thought, if it’s inappropriate for this forum i’m perfectly fine (no bad blood) with flagging/removing it, but i’m also not willing to re-post it again soo…

(and you are right, no, i was not in shower when i thought of this)
