If humanity suddenly vanished and all that would be left of our existence is all the videos ever filmed. How much of that would be porn? What would other civilizations think of us? Fucking perverts, aren’t we?

Porn is great. We are sexual beings. Your shame is unwarranted.

Also what makes you think aliens aren’t interested in our fertility rituals. As captain kirk taught us, knocking boots with aliens is awesome.

I hope they are on their way to us now for an interstellar booty call. Better yet, I hope they are covertly here now on a genetic exchange program.

Edit: You know all those weird sex ads in the back pages of alternative magazines. Aliens among us maybe??

Edit 2: To the people downviting this, this is exactly why you don’t get invited to better parties - Including alien sexy parties.

I’m not reading this as OP shaming porn. The “fucking perverts, aren’t we?” reads (to me) as them lumping themselves in with the rest of us.

Yes, we’re indeed fucking perverts, and it’s fucking great!

Yes, I am definitely in that group. I watch porn. I just had this realisation of how much porn there is to choose from vs how much choice there is on Netflix. And all that porn is basically free.

Perhaps. But the assumption that Aliens would find us perverted implies that this attitude is the normal one when prudism is the freakshow. Every media technology from cave painting to the internet and everything in between has been co-opted if not dominated by porn.

I mean if you look at ALL the species that have ever lived on earth in the history of earth, how many had the same sexual drive as humans? That would be in the 0.xxxxx percentage.

If you want to use logic, it would be logical to assume that chances are that aliens ARE NOT as sexually driven as us and that this is NOT a common behaviour.

If we compare humanity to other species on earth, the year-round horniness without any specific mating seasons is fairly uncommon. There’s not really a good reason to assume that a sentient alien species works the same way.

Maybe my aspirational alien sex party is an unintentional horror show where they want to have sex with us via cellular absorption and DNA fusion followed by a binary fision phase resulting in hybridization of both partners then cloning of the hybrids into an unknown number of offspring.

Porn and sex work itself aren’t bad, and are natural extensions of our human condition.

The shameful parts are the people who create sex trafficking rings, child/incest porn, and porn that imitates child/incest porn. There’s probably more shameful uses of porn, as we are also a degenerate society in a lot of respects.

To be fair, many of the earliest statues and such found were penises, or women with a chunky badonkadonk.

I don’t think this is anything new. As humans, we may just like big butts. Why lie?

Also, those pieces usually are explained as objects for fertility. And as a mammal that is pregnant for 9 months with 1 child, then gives birth and almost dies, and then, the child has to survive for at least 14-20 years to be able to reproduce, I can certainly understand why people would have wanted to try to ensure fertility + surviving pregnancy, childbirth, and childhood.

Most people have a biological imperative to get their rocks off.

We live in a society that is becoming more and more isolated by the day.

    For masturbation, mostly.

Humanity is relatively unique compared to earth’s other animals in that the species’ females can conceive all year (minus the time when they have their period) without any kind of mating season, and while it’s very hard to study this, it doesn’t seem like sex is particularly fun in most species, especially for females. This does help humans somewhat with forging long-lasting social bonds, which is definitely something that’s core to the human species, but it’s by no means the only way that a species can be instinctually inclined to form long-lasting social bonds. So to a hypothetical alien civilization, humans probably seem to spend a lot of energy on sex.

Now think about how much of human behavior and social transactions are based on sex. Think on how much time people think, directly or indirectly about sex. How many actions are indirectly motivated by sex, from silly things like conversation starters, to terrible things like sexual crimes. All the energy put into fashion, body modifications, sports, and many other activities in indirect sexual motivation. Think about how many feelings of sadness or even depressions are aggravated by, or even originated from, lack of sex. Think about the religious institutions and the changes they did to history by socially reprehending sex. Also think of the historical events indirectly influenced by sex. You could spend the entire day and even a research career on all that, and at some point one would ask what is NOT related to sex in this bizarre human world. It’s no wonder asexuals have so much trouble navigating around.

I interpret this as a problem statement, so I can think of a few solutions: We accept the dominance of porn culture and launch a quality offensive for porn, or we recognize a lack of asexual culture and launch a quality offensive for ace culture. Or we all pretend that porn doesn’t exist and leave the status quo as it is.

Yeah, ok…but only eliminates SOME of the other industries.

For example, you wouldn’t think ad sales as a sexually abusive industry. Yet I have it on good authority that google had spez get down on his knees and take cock after cock after cock cumming in his mouth, on his face, in his eyes. And as much as he was gagging, they just kept going. Cum everywhere. Bukake ritual to seal the deal on their AI agreement.

Then angry german women in leather came in with massive strapons the size of a forearm. Ramming every inch into him. As he cried and cried, while she smacked his balls with a ping pong paddle.

What? I thought you guys always said fuck spez?

            How come?

Are you saying abuse somehow generates money for them and then they can give away porn for free?

So should I pay for porn to make that industry better? Or just stop watching free porn altogether?

If there’s no demand, then there shouldn’t be any supply. I.e. if I’m not paying, why do they keep producing it?

Someone must be paying for it, but I haven’t met anyone yet who does or no one is willing to admit it.

I’d argue, that porn is a luxury. You don’t need porn to survive, nor for a fulfilling life.

So why feed an exploitive industry when you don’t have to? Isn’t that causing unnecessary harm?

That’s not to criticize the idea of performing erotic scenes to share with other people for sexual pleasure and getting money for it.

I find the path of causing as little harm as possible very difficult anyway to always do well, and I don’t believe there is any human who does it perfectly.

But I still like to keep my eyes in the right direction and know what’s true :)

      Pretty much my thought.

Consumerism is, therefore content churning is.

Some other intersecting ingredients might be human sexual drive, wiring for novelty, legacy of puritanical mores,

I’d argue the drive has been hijacked and amplified for my reasons above. Gym bros, meat eating and “low T” are all in service to male sex drive. It’s far more sinister than it appears and not the least bit surprising.

Another point that I didn’t see mentioned: some can make a lot of money, or just easier money, compared to getting a real 9-5 type job.
