I had dental surgery like, a month ago. Posted about it here. Instead of a front tooth I’ve got a metal (titanium I think?) cap sticking out of my gums. The tip of my tongue constantly touches it and I’m really over it.
The weirdest part is every time I brush my teeth it feels cold for like an hour. The button has a female drive to it (I think it’s Torx?) and it holds onto toothpaste.
At least I’m off my no biting things diet. There’s stuff that’s still impractical to eat but I can have sandwiches now.
I had a wire cemented to the back of my teeth almost 20 years ago and I still get bothered by it from time to time. It makes flossing suck too.
Dental rebar sounds unpleasant.

I have had some implants in the past and currently have two in the button stage and like a month to go before the crowns. Haven’t noticed a temp thing while brushing myself, but dental stuff sure can have some odd feelings while stuff is healing because of all the nerves.
Are you getting a new tooth eventually?

Could you use dental wax/silicone to cover the post for now? This is commonly used to temporarily cover for orthodontic brackets in your mouth to prevent gum/check irritation. The stuff is cheap too. $2 will get you a pack in the dental section of your local pharmacy/grocery store.
I suppose I could wear my prosthetic. They actually gave me two, one is kind of mouthguard style and the other is basically a denture, and I much prefer the former.
Yeah the gums need to grow together and they need to check if your body won’t reject the implant and the bones regrow around it.
It’s a bothersome wait but better than the horror stories I’ve heard about it suddenly falling out when eating.
Have a bit of patience and it will pay off ☺️
I’m getting dental implants, no button. Not sure if it’s because you have a different situation. For me, after the titanium screw was put in, the gums got stitched over it to heal for 6 months.

That’s the way my dental surgeon used to do it, for me there’s a cap that stands proud of the gums that will be removed and the crown put in its place, that way there’s no “opening” of my gums, they just take the cap out, bolt the tooth on and fill in over it.
