I remember 90s search engines. AltaVista was pretty ok a t searching the small web that existed, but I’m pretty sure I can get better answers from the LLMs tied to Kagi search.

AltaVista also got blown out of the water by google(back when it was just a search engine), and that was in the 00s not the 90s. 25 to 35 years ago is a long time, search is so so much better these days(or worse if you use a “search” engine like Google now).

I can run an LLM on a phone from before the AI craze, it would be slow but it would still run. You can’t really make a phone that isn’t compatible with AI.

More trivia: It was originally called duck tape not duct tape because water rolled off its plastic coating like water off a ducks back. I agree that if you are buying duct tape (for ducting), do your research, and buy the good stuff(quality metal foil HVAC tape in 99%of cases), clean the surface, and remember to spend a little bit of time rubbing it to the surface. Tape adhesive is a PSA. Pressure Sensitive Adhesive sticks better the more pressure you put on it.

I can’t believe some people think that putting tariffs on a country means the country will just give the government 25% of everything and the merchants of that country are not just going to raise the prices to match the new expenses(or maybe even a little bit more since they have a good excuse to change prices).

The US is not statistically very different from the rest of the world.

There are a surprising number of people who will never vote Democrat because “they will take my guns away”.
