Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some alternatives to Google Docs?
1·6 months agoit “just” has to be someone with a good idea they are passionate about. you think of only hosted services, but there is also the option of a normal file, syncthing sended back and forth aside from selfhosted options such as collabora just asan example.
wdym even catbox? this is just a filehoster…

11·6 months agoi see many comments here suggesting other paid proprietary tools and just want to add that you should please consider exclusively FOSS solutions. replacing google with another company saying: “trust me, bro”, just does not cut it anymore. the internet is filled with stories of professionals losing work, because insert big tech company suspended their accounts, trains their AI without disclosure or just leaked your credentials and apologizes by makung a whoopsie post and suggesting you just change your password.
the more open, local and established your setup is, the less you are going to have those headaches and can focus on actually working, even if it means a little more hurdles with setup and less flashy features.

Games@lemmy.world•Games that I finished this year so far. Probably the best year of gaming for me since 2007English
3·7 months agogotta ask: what happened 2007?
you pointing out “mainly” just shifts his question to the next time he decides to host a service, which is what i meant to point out.
they might state that, but upstream syncthing says that the feature is intentionally hidden in the advanced settings and they plan to deprecate it.
apart from syncthing not being a backup solution, the question revolves around seldhosting im general, not purely on photo backup.

1·9 months agoyou agree to legal mediation other than a court in their terms of service, so… not really
i don’t think the need for a plain calendar warrants a resource monster such as nextcloud.
There is a symlink trick on the server side. It’s a little annoying that it is only a workaround, but one set up it’s great! I was looking for the git issue where i found it, but was only able to find this one (it seems to be documented now).

i know you didn’t mean this in a literal way but you challenged me to find anything you complain about and it was literally your 2nd latest post on pemmy where you complained about worker’s miscalibrated tools. this is just peak irony to me
