be aware, everything you say around amazon, apple, alphabet, meta, and any other corporate trash products are being sold, trained on, and sent to your local alphabet agency. it’s been this way for a while, but this is a nice reminder to know when to speak and when to listen

yeah totally, but those are basic algorithms and most lay people don’t even realize them to be. also I doubt many developers would show their boss “hey I built this awesome algorithm, it sorts by up votes” or “by time created” and continue having their job unless they built a recommendation engine per user or demographic, which is the generic corporate standard
which is why I like Lemmy/fediverse. it lets things be much more “organic” for lack of a much better word
yes, in designed algorithms (although it’s hard to argue that “hot” sorting is an “algorithm” unless we’re being pedantic). but in a colloquial sense, from an end user’s perspective, the thing they see is “the algorithm”. which for lemmy is about as natural as I described, unless I’m missing something (like the rate of photons hitting under sea cables), since there isn’t a suggestion engine for the “all” feed

totally, thanks for tip on Sony. I find the older stuff to be built better so I don’t mind repairing them
really into freestyle polka on my portable cassette player these days. you?
ahh yeah. I do spend most of my time off line and that’s one reason I don’t want to use streaming services
very interesting, thanks for sharing
yeah that’s a good advice. curious, where would the “lie” be?
browsing the site: “connection is secure” https cert signed by whoever
browsing the reader option: “connection is not secure”
check out Kiwix and Zims. they also have tools to automatically download sites for offline use. anonymous? no. but you can share .zim files without being connected to the internet
you’re still paying for server fees and free labor from the developers
me neither. can USA news put the state if they’re not going to say which country it’s in
