At minimum how would the heat be managed? Also as someone else said, just getting the material from the earth into orbit is currently possible but why?

It’s not that difficult anymore, gene splicing is now something that can be done at home. Probably the hardest part is getting one’s hands on the material. There was that biolab that was just busted this year in Las Vegas.

A clandestine group using a model to aid in developing a nasty disease seems like the most likely uh oh scenario right now. Either that or an accidental scenario where AI was used somewhere it shouldn’t have been.

You don’t need a deity to get decent instructions on how to make a pretty nasty disease in a clandestine home lab.

It’s funny to watch people catch up with what’s been happening for years and what was foreseeable at least since 2020. The moment I saw an early version of chatGPT in 2019 I knew pretty much the whole story, although I didn’t account for the massive infrastructure build out backlash because I seriously underestimated the resource consumption.

Yeah that happens a lot with the model most apps and platforms use. The venture capital today, figure out how to actually become profitable tomorrow. That transition is usually messy.

I used their wifi for my place without a Xfinity cable subscription but you could only connect two devices so I used my old phone as a hotspot and that worked for like up to four devices. It was like $10 per month.

You can buy sim cards from Walmart. Last time I was around I was using ultra mobile, although Walmart had their own brand (can’t remember the name). It was $40 no subscription for unlimited talk, text, and data although I think mint now has a similar plan for $30 Link there’s like a ton of these companies, just go to Walmart in the electronics area near the laptops and whatnot there’s a bunch of sum cards and esims you can get with different deals, I’m pretty sure they also sell mint mobile sim cards

When I’m back stateside I just grab one of those monthly unlimited sims for like $35 and forget about it. Dang, you could probably get away with that $10 Xfinity wifi if you have a voip number although coverage probably isn’t amazing.

I would have to check out the API for Lemmy to see how easy it would be to make a minimal terminal CLI would be to make. I hate making stuff publicly because I usually only want what I need to work, but I could make a repo and see if anyone else is interested in expanding on it.
It’s more like sugar tea but yes.

I used to use WebKit based browsers like w3m and terminal based browsers like lynx. Also used a lot of terminal based apps for things, not really for security but because my netbooks single core atom chip sucked. I noticed though that I essentially avoided cookies, ads, and trackers by accident. I’ve been thinking of going back to a thermal based life. Now I’m wondering if there are terminal based apps for Lemmy and mastadon.
You’re not wrong but maybe not completely right. Someone has thought the world was about to end since at least the beginning of recorded history. Famously the first Pope Saint Peter was strongly convinced the rapture was within his lifetime, 1960 years later, the world is still spinning.

Who’s to say the issue was necessarily with the server. Dishes being dirty, or the food having issues wouldn’t be their fault. Also your assumption does really depend on the restaurant and how they manage tipping.

My issue isn’t with the service staff, it’s with business owners who are increasingly abusing their workers by offloading their pay onto tips. I mainly fight this by just not eating out or eating out at places where tipping isn’t customary. Also for what it’s worth I only stay stateside a portion of the year, where else I stay tipping is unusual, not unheard of but definitely not a common thing people do. So in the end instead of 15% they get 0% because I didn’t go out to eat and of course the business owner gets $0.

Not me but I’ve known three people now that would swing to absolute extremes on a kinda half year to three year cycle. Like their thing now is they are an ultra atheist and then in a couple months they were the most devout Muslim possible and then ultra this and ultra that, seemed kinda like undiagnosed manic behavior. Very impassioned individuals, pretty intelligent, absolutely convinced in whatever their thing was at that moment, always trying to fight the “enemy” and save the world type stuff but seemingly totally unanchored. The switches would come with some sort of epiphany or a sense they were being tricked or fooled. I bring this up because two of them had done that swing from ultra right to ultra left and then one into kinda political no man’s land conspiracy they’re both out to get you. Haven’t run into the other guy in a while so I’m guessing he has a new crusade by now.

Sure but that wasn’t what I ever argued for. Doing work for no pay outside of a volunteer position or something like family is a bad situation no matter what.
No but it does make things easier.
