  • removing individual freedom is never good

I generally agree that prohibition doesn’t work, and is bad, but having an absolutist position like this is usually problematic. For example we have to restrict some people’s freedoms. Like some people want to harm or kill others, that should not be a freedom people have.

Most things in life have a lot of nuance, which means we can’t usually make blanket rule for things.

In saying all that… Prohibition usually doesn’t solve the issue, sometimes makes it worse, and often ends up hurting people who are already suffering (usually why they resort to harmful substances)

  • Probes can do almost anything crew can do, and many things that crew cannot.

This take is a little ignorant. But I understand where you’re coming from.

Humans on mars could do almost all of the research that decades of landers and rovers have done in days. They’re also able to make more on the fly decision and pivot in research strategy, technique, and tools used.

The only thing human space flight seems to do is help us get better at human space flight.

In regards to this, a lot of technological advances that were founded or improved for the space programme have been highly beneficial it at least useful, on earth.

To add to all this, I don’t know the figures for modern day nasa research and programmes, but the apollo programme is estimated to have returned $13 to the US for every $1 spent on it.

  • This is where lables start to get unhelpful imo. Clearly he’s on the gay to straight spectrum somewhere in the middle, but isn’t comfortable identifying with the non traditional end.

I think a looot more people are some kind of bi, but either don’t consider themselves that way, or don’t want to admit it.

I wonder if a lot more people would be less closeted and resistant tuotheir true feelings if there was no lable for sexualities. Just ‘hey, he’s kind of hot, I want to fuck him’, then do it. Not have people ask if that means your x or y or z etc.

I mean… The 3D idea was pretty cool, and it worked surprisingly well, but I realistically never used it other that for fun occasionally.

I’ve just hacked and started reusing my old 3DS and it’s great fun! Can download most games abs cool hacks/mods to modify them.

Is this able to hook up with the same software as 3DS so I could do the same on it?

  • The reason you cannot ban weapons is because anything could be a weapon. A rock, pencil, barb wire, glass, car, etc.

I know what you mean, but there’s always nuance, a limit, when it comes to things like this. Just because you can use anything as a weapon, doesn’t mean everyone should have access to everything. Rocket launchers? Bio weapons? Nukes?

Banning weapons wouldn’t make crime vanish. Also the whole point of crime is that you break the rules to do it. Your strict rules would just be broken by certain people hence creating the “crime”.

Similarly, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. If there’s no need to ban things because criminals will do it anyway, why have laws at all? Murder, rape, assault etc.

Ultimately, societally, we attempt to come to a collective idea of what we think is “right”, and then attempt to enforce that.

Initially most are very straight forward, like “don’t kill people”… But then the deeper you drill into it, the more complicated it gets. What if you accidentally kill someone? You give them something they’re allergic to without knowing it? Should you get life in prison?
