That’s me!

It does do some static stuff but I don’t know if you’d be able to feel that from another room.

CRT TVs have a very iconic high pitched noise. It’s somewhat similar to the sound of tinnitus. Combine that with some people not being able to hear those high pitched noises very well (especially as they age) it makes sense that you may have been able to hear them but not really consciously be aware of it.

It’s so infuriating to me that there isn’t a way to just encrypt traffic without verifying it’s part of a chain. By all means, give a nag warning in browsers, but ugh, I think that ship has long since sailed. Plus, realistically, you’d need just as many scary warnings to deter the average user that they might be getting MITMed.

Can you not issue your own certificate? I guess it depends on how many devices and what types of devices need to connect. It’s be a one time effort per device (importing your own self signed cert) versus one time effort per service per X days.

If the community moderator acts in it before instance admins see it then they don’t see it, right?

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.

It wasn’t pointless of me to try and help you and others know the difference between copyrights and patents. It’s a very common misconception. It wasn’t detracting from your point, either. At no point did I argue that the game companies doing this are actually morally correct and that it shouldn’t bother you that the Nemesis System is patented or that Nintendo is patenting things like capturing monsters.

Last time I checked it out there was a lot of racist spam. It seems better now. Maybe it was one bad actor or the spam filter is better.

In case anyone is reading this thinking “nah, there won’t be a time I wish I listened,” take it from me that I do. I worry a lot about the current political climate in the US and about talking about queer topics online. Like, obviously, today it sounds insane to worry about, but who fucking knows.
For fuck’s sake, they’re using period tracker apps to go after people for suspected abortions to charge them with “murder”.

A lot, or at least some, companies install root certificates on your devices and route traffic through a proxy over their VPN meaning even things that should be encrypted by TLS they can see.

I’m not a man

It’s a common misconception. It’s not a big deal. Why are you being so defensive about me correcting it?

The difference does matter. Two copyrighted games can have similar mechanics. Just look at literally any pair of games in the same genre. First person shooting isn’t patented, so anybody can make an FPS game. They patented the nemesis system. Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are copyrighted.

Copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and patent infringement are all very different.

Patented, not copyrighted, but I think you double posted.

You mean patent. You don’t choose to copyright things or not, all media is inherently copyrighted. This comment is technically copyrighted once I hit send. It sounds like your referring to Shadow of Mordor’s/War’s Nemesis system being patented.
I hate cliffhangers. Especially since new seasons aren’t guaranteed.
