I’m in a similar boat. Over an hour commute, younger kids with afterschool activities 4 days a week. A wife has a full-time job, luckily, she finally finished her master’ so we reclaimed Saturdays and I’m not running the taxi service solo.
Shit is exhausting, but I am glad our daughters got to see their mom a accomplished something so huge, and I’m proud to have supported her along the way.
I think FreeCAD has potential. It’s not there yet. I’m trying to learn it but I’m getting a lot of grey in my beard and have been using Solidworks at work so long any new friction is frustrating.

Its more work to setup but I am of the opinion parts should have drawings to show critical dimensions. Drawings should have rev blocks describing differences.

Ive never heard of carbon brushes referred to as coal. Is it a language thing? They are made out graphite, which is also mined, but its different enough from say https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthracite. I think graphite is actually closer to diamond than it is to coal, in terms of chemical makeup.
