Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a video game you were bummed about finishing, wishing the experience lasted longer?
6·7 days agoHorizon: Forbidden West because the story, music, voice acting, and gameplay really pulled me in. I felt a lot of emotions that I hadn’t felt in a long time because of this game. When it ended I felt like I was losing something dear to me lol
Baldurs Gate 3 left me wishing for more, but that is entirely because the third act was so damn rushed compared to the rest of the game.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend some warm winter dog boots for a very cold weather in northern Maine?
5·13 days agoI have some Ruffwear boots that I pair with socks for my dog. I got them six years ago, so I’m not sure how the quality holds up now but I still use the boots every year in Montana. I will say I found their sizing guide to be true to size!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I cannot understand what dose of vitamin D I should take
2·13 days agoI think that you should talk to your doctor about your concerns. My doctor prescribed a UVB light that I use for a short period every day and it seems to be helping quite a lot with my muscle pain and vitamin D levels

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe the RAM shortage will make software less bloated?
5·15 days agoI only own one Nintendo game on my Switch. I’m not going to sit here and pretend most of my games run great on it though. Slay the Spire and Stardew run well. But I’ve had quite a few crashes with Civilization and some hangs with Hades or Hollow Knight too

9·18 days agoBandcamp is what my bands like to use. They often have events (Bandcamp Fridays) where 100% of purchases go to the artists. Some bands also make decent money off merch sales from their own storefronts

Technology@lemmy.world•Spotify Music Library Scraped by Pirate Activist GroupEnglish
2101·19 days agoSince day one, we have stood with the artist community against piracy, and we are actively working with our industry partners to protect creators and defend their rights.
Lmao. They protect and defend artist rights so hard they they’ve refused to pay a fair compensation, and have taken it further by promoting AI artists over actual artists. This statement is almost comical after it was reported that they’ve had copy cats to replace King Glizard and the Lizard Wizard when they pulled their albums from Spotify

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What can we do about the increasing problem of these self-deleting bot accounts?
11·1 month agoWait, do they keep reusing the same username? Because I feel like I’ve been playing wack-a-mole blocking a certain user, and it makes a lot of sense that they’d just be creating new accounts constantly

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ok, honestly, is cast-iron really any better than a non-stick, stainless, copper (anything else?) pan?
13·1 month agoTeflon and certain ceramic non-stick pans can’t handle the heat needed to sear a steak. You can look up the heat range of your pans, but generally if it isn’t cast iron or steel, it’s going to warp or degrade the coating. That means they won’t last as long.
On the other hand I’ve never had to toss a cast iron pan. Sometimes I’ve needed to scrape off seasoning and redo it, and it’s rare to ruin a cast iron pan to the point it can’t be redeemed. But I’ve just bought my first carbon steel wok because it’s much lighter than cast iron

World News@lemmy.world•Vatican commission votes against allowing women as Catholic deaconsEnglish
5·1 month agoI was raised Catholic, and I asked my mother once why we never saw women as deacons or priests. I was told that women should not be permitted to teach (scripture). There’s a few verses about that in the new testament, in Timothy specifically if I recall correctly.
Imagine how confusing that was for me considering most of the faculty at the Catholic school were nuns! Or that my mother herself was Catechism teacher for Confirmation.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I hate how inescapable politics are on Lemmy, but at least nobody's constantly asking how blind people wipe their butt or pick up their dog's poop then completely ignoring me when I try to answer.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the highest level of mathematics that should be expected to graduate high school?
2·2 months agoI think he doesn’t need math tutoring. He needs someone to sit with him while he does his homework, and he needs encouragement. Our education system just marches people through to graduation without giving them the chance to breathe.
But, I agree, our teachers have been struggling for decades.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the highest level of mathematics that should be expected to graduate high school?
2·2 months agoI tutor high school students in math and science. They’ve all taken a budgeting class. One of my students is taking calculus and I genuinely feel he has a better understanding of it than I do!
I am glad he has the option to take calculus, he’s one that gets bored at the place other students need. But I really don’t think many students need it or can fit it in their graduation tracks.
We also need to consider how difficult algebra was for some, to the point that a lot of adults think they hate math. I like the comment in the op that Applied Calculus skills (real-world story problems) are useful, and I think that would have more impact than two-three semesters of calculus.

Wikipedia says their minimum monthly salary is about $116, $7 is about 6% of that.
Yeah, that’s still insulting lol
