Nothing wrong with preferring multiplayer games. If your problem is that there are single player games that you really want to enjoy but can’t concentrate on for very long then perhaps you should look into attention deficit treatments.

Sometimes just going for a 15 minute walk can help a bunch. Thinking about something you want to do without digital distractions can make it a lot easier to get into when you get back.

You’ve said you watch a lot of youtube a lot, I think you should stop it. I used to watch youtube a lot as well. In reality I realised that I rarely finish watching youtube feeling relaxed, fullfilled or inspired. And the longer I watched the more dread and hoplessness I felt because I’ve wasted so much time when I could be doing something productive.

A while back my friends and I challenged each other to stop using social media (mainly youtube) for a month and we all learned a lot, we realised how much it was sucking out of our lives and how little it was giving back to us.

I would challenge you to do the same! Quit youtube entirely for a month. It might be difficult at first but eventually you will probably stop thinking about it and realise how little it mattered. And you’ll gain more apppreciation for other more meaningful things like video games (but probably not only video games)

I think it’s at least worth quitting for a week. You’ll have more clarity. Maybe you can browse lemmy, listen to music or read a book when you have nothing else to do.

I think you might be in a similar boat to me. It’s very possible you have high functioning depression. Gaming on your own feels pointless (even though you really want to do it), but playing with friends is great because it staves off that feeling of loneliness on top of also being able to play a game.

Sometimes I have some YouTube videos running on a second screen while playing. And for story moments I just pause them.

yeah sure, but that just feels so sloppy to do and probably fries my brain to a crisp 😭

It’s fried already either way. Might as well enjoy it.

Make it music so that it feels “correct”.

Maybe you could try streaming your singleplayer games to discord and your friends can join and watch if they’d like? Sometimes I do that just to trick my ADHD brain into treating it like an event rather than something to pass the time.

[edit] and just to be clear, my friends would rarely watch, but it’s just enough of a push to reframe it in my head.
