You could sell games. They took your ownership and right to resale. They have greatly diminished the dollar value of games and made sure a used market cannot exist.
Yeah that’s a good point. I tend to hoard my games though. I like to come back to them, and if I was one of those people that already owned chrono trigger on SNES I definitely wouldn’t be buying at back at today’s price if I had previously sold it.
The thing is, they’re not a monopoly, they just have the best platform. There’s gog, epic launcher, and all the other ones I choose to ignore. They make everything too easy and convenient. I usually buy my games on steam, and if I really enjoyed them I’ll rebuy them on gog later on sale.
Can it? Nvidia fucks me over every day with price gouging, shifting to AI, and making generally shitty cards. Microsoft fucks me every day by being a shitty partner, releasing shit vibe code, refusing to fix glaring bugs, maintaining a shit operating system.
I said valve hasn’t fucked me over yet. Those other two, they’ve fucked me for years.
If graphics cards weren’t the cost of what they are today, I already would have switched to amd. And I also dont run windows on my computer, either, so…
Okay, I think I’m starting to get it. Thanks for the help. In my experience I don’t recall losing access to anything I “owned” from Valve.

To each their own.
My point is, resale is worth money. The less of a used market the more the value diminishes.
Valve only exists because they fucked us a long time ago and created a monopoly.

Everything you’ve said could be applied to Microsoft or NVidia who you bitch about. Release a game without Steam, I’m sure you’ll do just fine.
When I can transfer licenses freely then I’ll give them a second thought.
