In CK3 you can change some forced historical events, can you not in EU4?

The whole point is to shake up the game. That’s why CK2 and the mongols and Aztec invasions and Stellaris has mid game and end game crisis.
But is it a good mechanic to force something like that in that way onto the player? I say no.
