      WD-40 isn’t lubricant. 'W’ater 'D’isplacement. It works in a pinch, but you’ll have to do it again pretty soon. It’s also a degreaser, so it’s washing away whatever oil is still there.

      For the best effect, you should disassemble and clean the squeaky parts and use thick oil or grease. WD-40 is a penetrating oil, it’s easy to get it into tight spots and it will work well enough, but probably not as long.
