There are Palestinian journalists reporting from Gaza. And I do check in with news orgs that use their reporting, and independent reporting.

I sincerely hope these tiktok videos are true. But outside of tiktok, instagram, facebook, reddit posting the same video, I have not seen a Palestinian journalist report on this.

I’m not trying to put you down, but I’m skeptical to accept videos at face value because it’s easy for people on social media to create false narratives and upload them for content. I’m just hoping for a journalist to verify this story.

Love my dumb fridge. No screens, no water dispenser. I own a pitcher and a facuet. Don’t need to change filters every six months or check the weather on my fridge. I never want a screen on my fridge.

I think I went on a rabbit hole reading about this island online awhile back. IIRC they speak creole Portuguese, while EG speaks Spanish, and have been punished by the government for wanting independence for years. This Internet shutdown is just a drastic and recent punishment.

It does seem like a nice life there. But very different than what we in the west are accustomed to. They lack many basic necessities, there’s shortages of everything that’s imported.

It would be important to not be a burden to the community. Starlink isn’t available there, so I’m not sure of another way to work remotely from there. And unless you have a skill they would benefit from, you might be a strain on a community already stretching it’s resources. But I do see the appeal of an island like annobón.

The three leftist commentators that I watched over the past day were Hasan Piker, Krystal Ball (with her conservative cohost Saager), and Kyle Kulinski. All of them humanized Kirk, and reminded the audience he has children, and acknowledged that they are in the same business as Kirk, while they are on the other side, and have very strong disagreements with his positions.

I don’t dislike any of their reactions, but I was frustrated with Kyle today because he spent a long time discussing current conspiracy theories, and then discussed inflammatory right wing reactions. There’s not complete information available yet because the suspect hasn’t been caught, and it just happened. It felt like he was grasping at conspiracy theories, giving them too much credit without the evidence to back them up. And I didn’t enjoyed most of the reactions on social media, including lemmy, yesterday, so I was pretty exhausted to hear him go over the worst of the right winged reactions.
