I’m trying out yacy and it’s hitting the same spot. My only issue is self hosting seems to not work well for yunohost so I may need to find a way to run it alternatively somehow.
Will talk about Linux, plants, space, retro games, and anything else I find interesting.

If anyone knows and other good search engines for the fediverse let me(us?) know. Im trying to find something that isnt just a small wrapper around google/bing/etc…

search @username@pixelfed.social and you should see the user pop up.
@user@server.url just like any other account. It should show up. Another option is to search for the post on the top of lemmy and then navigate to their account.
Example: @dansup@pixelfed.social
If that doesnt work, you can try this: https://lemmy.world/u/@dansup@pixelfed.social
in other words your telling lemmy to go to his personal account, which happens to be on another server.
Then they doubled theirs in 15ish days, which is crazy good.
Most servers do. Depends on their block/allow list and their setup.
The software supports it, you just need to make sure one of your users has followed an account/lemmy community on the pixelfed side and make sure a lemmy account follows an account on the pixelfed side.
Its not a perfect solution, but it gets the job done after that. (I tested this on an older version of lemmy and a new bleeding edge version of pixelfed)
One of the biggest ongoing issues with lemmy is that all the other fediverse systems generally work together pretty well but then you get to lemmy and it works…kinda? Mostly? But there is always quirks, like only being able to post but not see comments. as I say on lemmy :). I like the platform because of the ongoing community that seems to stick around and have sustainable growth (like oooold reddit).
Excellent. They are seeing huge growth. I’m hoping it’s sustainable, the main server is just getting slammed right now (according to the mastodon posts).
According to fedidb all they need is 70k ish more people and I get will surpass Lemmy in number of users.
yep peertube is great. Im partial to https://makertube.net or https://tilvids.com/ but theres a ton: https://joinpeertube.org/instances
2 in my local area. It’s how I found out about it. We have been slowly growing the community.
She did a great job and that’s a lot of services to take a look at!
It was :(
My pi 4 is right on the cusp. 3 B+ was the best when it came to no dongles and power. Now its taking about the same power as a mini PC and you have to by the enclosure, fans/heatsink/dongles/etc…etc… I suppose you can still buy the old pis but man I miss when that was the form factor they were going for.
I bring over my 3/4 for hacking projects all the time. But I cant justify the 5 without looking at getting a mini pc for 10$ more and it comes with a hard drive ment to last longer than an SD.
And those are just the instances that show up. Nice!
I have a meshtastic script that runs once a day that sends a weather report for our local area at 6:00 am. It was based off a script that some awesome person did. I also have a script that once a week sends out ham/meshtastic events to all local people. Its worked out pretty well.
Hashtags is how a majority(?) of the rest of the fediverse works to find “like” things. Lemmy and Lemmy like software are the strange ones in how it works with posts.
It would be nice if our user profiles had an option “show hashtags” so that users that want to see the hashtags can and those that don’t won’t. Best of both worlds. Make it account specific. It also allows people to post on the rest of the fediverse AND Lemmy in how both expect.
Tried, looks like it’s not showing up. Oh well.
I’m not seeing any GoToSocial posts in Lemmy world or piefed. But I can see them within GoToSocial and a separate mastodon adjacent instance.
I can see it and post on GoToSocial, but the comments are not showing up on lemmy.
I have no idea.I tried yesterday to figure out what that ment…but the original site is down.
We have higher market share 4%+. Thats the biggest one for me. We were at 3% earlier in the year.
He does bug me in his coverage in “problems” he says linux has in other videos, but he does research quite a it. So better than most. Like I love my steamdeck and linux support…
One thing is that kbin/mbin/piefed/etc…etc… interact with lemmy all the time. Its getting a bit hazy if “lemmy” the platform is growing or if the entirety of the fediverse is growing and others are communicating with the software. We are now seeing quite a few accounts from all over the web interacting with lemmy communities. Is that a new “user” according to the stats? Or is that person a one off from mastodon?
What I a seeing is a general increase in discussion on the platform and increase in posts from all over the fediverse. Which is awesome!
