Funny you mention it, the next large purchase I have planned is a gaming PC to replace my aging 2018 laptop, and I plan on going all-in on Linux. From what I can tell, AMD seems to be the way to go, and as a long time Fedora user, I’m interested in Nobara.

Your perspective is way off. It sounds like you’re young, single (no kids, at least), and doing well for yourself. Which is great!
I have a pretty well-paying job, at least enough for my family and I to live comfortably. But I also have adult responsibilities, including taking care of said family. Sure, on paper, I could feasibly afford to get both, but there’s no sense in getting two systems that–to my earlier point–seem to serve identical functions. Especially not when I’d also like to go out with my wife, prep a high schooler for college, help my younger child with severe special needs with everything he needs to thrive, sometimes go on vacation, do some other hobbies, responsibly maintain vehicles and things around the house, and so on. All that on top of purchasing frugally (every single piece of furniture in my living room, for example, we got secondhand for free).
So yes, it’s very much an either/or decision for me, as it is for a lot of people.
I don’t have a Steam Deck yet. Given the choice between that and the Switch 2, at this point, I’m still going with the Steam Deck.
What are some good free providers besides OpenSubtitles? I recently migrated my library and I’m hitting my daily limit filling in what I’m missing.
As soon as they showed the JoyCon mouse control I was hoping there would be support for standard mice. It still doesn’t do anything to steer me toward a Switch 2 over a Steam Deck, but it’s an excellent move for accessibility.
Where are you hosting your instance now? I’ve been looking into a cheap VPS for the things I’d rather not host on my personal home network.

I see what you mean. There’s definitely been a lot of marketing overreach with the franchise. But there’s something about Final Fantasy that makes it a money-printing machine. Maybe it’s the long legacy, nostalgia, or the fact that they’ve been with it since the beginning, but FF marketing campaigns have (almost) always been wildly successful in a way that Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, or even Dragon Quest (in the US) can’t live up to. Just look at Kingdom Hearts, Super Smash Bros, and even that Louis Vuitton promo with Lightning.
Not that I’m trying to sell you on this set. I get that a lot of people don’t like Universes Beyond.
FIN is the best-selling MtG set of all time and there hasn’t even been a prerelease event yet. Blowing up the budget is plenty justified in this case.

Thankfully (weird to say), the current political climate has her worried about being tracked online and she’s finally opening up to the idea of proper privacy.
A couple years ago my in-laws were downsizing after retiring and they asked if I would possibly have any use for their ancient desktop PC (at least old enough to have shipped with Windows 7).
I installed Debian on it and it’s running Jellyfin, qBittorrent through Gluetun, Calibre-web, NextCloud, and Pi-Hole containers, with plenty of room to spare. I’ve also got some services running on Raspberry pis (back when they were cheap). And an external 4TB hard drive connected to it acting as a NAS. No hardware transcoding or 4K video on Jellyfin but that’s no big deal for me.
All that to say yes, you can absolutely self-host on repurposed hardware. Any old PC you’re looking at is no doubt newer than mine.
Really? We had a family game night last night with the purchased digital edition of Until Dawn just fine.
$20 is the limit for me. I’m perfectly fine waiting a few years to play the game, if it still exists by that point. If it doesn’t, then I’m glad I didn’t waste my time.
