Senior Chief Petty Officer. Starfleet is in my blood, and I’ve spent my entire adult life in service to boldly going.

Keiko and Molly are my favorite humans, but Transporter Room 3 will always be my favorite.

Just don’t ask who what’s in the pattern buffer.

  • I’ve had more conversations than I can count with people I would never be able to talk to in person, all using our own native languages.

The original posts are in English, people comment in their native language, and I use a translator, then respond in my own language. Is the translator perfect? No! Neither is theirs.

With the way most translators I’ve used work, it’s easier for the non-native speaker to try translating, since the translator might try and use different words that entirely change the meaning, but likely list possible alternatives. A native e speaker will understand the alternatives while a non-native speaker probably won’t.

    That’s my thought process anyway.

Never had anyone who wasn’t pearl-clutching or virtue-signaling complain about it. And I’ve had tons of conversations with people I’d never have talked to otherwise.

  • “just doing my job” isn’t really relevant when your job is literally destroying democracy to assist a fascist neo-nazi regime

Yes, quitting “in protest” is an option, but why do that when you can just collect a paycheck and be a shitty as possible at your job until you get fired?

“oh sure thing boss I’ll get right on this deletion thing” 6 days of fucking around on the fediverse later, websites still unchanged “oh yeah I’m working on it, top priority!”

I get fear of retribution if they figure out you’re doing it on purpose to sabotage efforts but like… How many people are actually bothering?

I can’t imagine someone in the firing squad trying to say “I was just doing my job”, it’s not the same thing as the guy working in the lunchroom. The only difference in my opinion is the firing squad kills people and the guy at the computer kills information, democracy, morality, common sense etc…

You can’t say you were just doing your job when your job is “destroy this information”

Yes, it’s “just a small part” but even the Great Wall of China is made of smaller bricks/slabs. The whole can’t exist without the separate pieces.

    I’m a little rambly, apologies. I hope I’ve made a coherent point.

  • At least you all can get your family to use it.

I can’t even get my spouse to use it unless she thinks what we are talking about might be illegal where we are (it usually isn’t)

I’ve tried convincing family to use it, but all that happens is I just never hear from them until I see them in person or they call me.

They don’t even feel the need to back up their Amazon Kindle collection before they get cutoff from it… Thousands of dollars wasted if they ever lose access to the account.

  • Weird, I just had a bunch of mls tell me just the other day that a comment I made was strawmanning a hypothetical tankie telling me I’m wrong.

And here we see yet another ml strawmanning.

    Super Weird.

All I see is a bunch of people saying this is dystopia nightmare shit, and so far the only person I’ve seen do anything other than call it what it is is the ml comparing this to China.

Surveillance states are bad anywhere, you won’t get many people arguing that city wide government facial recognition is a good thing.

  • “could be ousted”

    Uhhhhhh no.

Nobody in their right mind would listen to this.

The Russian Puppet never intended to allow support to continue and is making shit up to try and justify halting aid without serious backlash.

Musketrump and the MAGAts can get fucked. Unless they’re willing to go to war to enforce it, there’s 0 chance of it happening. And if they go to war for that, they’re going to have a hell of a lot of internal conflict that will absolutely result in blood. Militarily and civilian.

  • The fact that anyone can see this and think “yes, this is a clear sign we must invest MORE in oil consumption” is wild to me.

If ONE country is shelling out as much for renewable as the rest of the world spends on fossil fuels, then MAYBE, just MAYBE there might be something to renewables, especially given all the things we see daily about how much more efficient renewables are, how much money is in the entire industry, how quickly people are switching to renewables…

It’s mind boggling that anyone thinks fossil fuels are the future, or at least can convince other people that it’s the future all while caring about just the money.

I’d love to have a power wall and a wind/solar setup for all my energy needs.
