  • What I’m saying is that integer scaling is no longer required. I’ve been using non-integer scaling on laptops for the last three ish years on Plasma, and I’ve seen the number of apps that can’t handle it go from a few to almost none. I’m not missing out, I’m living the dream :D

That being said you make a good point. With (good) fractional scaling support on linux being very recent and only working properly on certain desktops, some resolutions are not optimal. I imagine 1440p and such isn’t great. A linux laptop should at least provide a warning.

  • Wow just two days ago I see a post about how Lemmy is dominated by men and how that could become a problem, and today I see a comment section where all the incels come out of the woodwork.

“waaa somebody wants to solve a problem that has never affected me I’m the victim”

“omg what if people talk behind my back they might find out I’m an asshole? literally 1984”

“wadabout if this app was racist?!? checkmate”

I’m not saying this app is good or bad (I can definitely see the problems) but if an article about cybersecurity gets posted and this is our first reaction, makes me lose hope in Lemmy.

Edit: Responses have made very good points and I think I was off, thanks guys. I still think some of the early comments I encountered were rather reactionary

  • You’re not wrong but that’s not quite decentralization, that’s just not building a walled garden, but retaining the power to put up walls at any point. If most users are on BlueSky, then BlueSky retains the power. If they decide to end support of AT or to extend (break) it, they keep their user base while everything else is left in the dust.

This is why people are saying not to create an account on mastoson.social - it’s getting too big. And mastodon.social is run by a non-profit, whereas BlueSky is a for-profit company. True decentralization and federation are against their interests.
