I don’t think they’ve actually approved a war since Korea. They ceded that power to the president. Congress never declared war on Vietnam, Iraq x2, or Afghanistan. And that’s just the big ones.

As far as I can tell, Trump has only been right about a single thing, that Europe needs to spend more money on military.

That conjured a great mental image for me of old man Putin setting out little bowls for neighborhood cats with the faces of Elon and Trump.

I’ve heard it said that Putin is actually the world’s richest man, worth over $1 trillion. I could believe it.

Also the reason why Saudis funded it. They want a piece of the post truth pie. But why did Elon even bother with the Saudi money? Is it as simple as wanting to keep the high score?

He paid $44 billion for twitter (of his and others’ money) but the presidency of the richest country on earth only cost $250 million? It doesn’t add up at all.

I agree with you that it’s sad and insulting. Europe and the US were about tied in support, with the US slightly higher. That is until today, when the EU announced a new $732 billion in support and war material. Go EU! Fantastic news. That’s almost double what has already been sent in total by all countries over the past three years.

Olaf Scholz just announced the EU will be donating $732 billion of war materiel to Ukraine. I’m so happy about this. They’re not going to let the US sell Ukraine out.

I was about to say that catholics aren’t as politically fucked as the evangelicals, but I looked up the data and the difference is down to 5%.

When I was young and personally knew some catholics, they seemed so much more fun than the stuffy evangelicals. Their parents voted for Democrats and were much more permissive with their kids compared to protestants. Either my experience is fairly unique or catholics have changed.

I know evangelical and protestant don’t mean the same thing but at least where I grew up almost all the protestants were evangelical or worse. Yeah it gets worse.

I live in a highly religious part of the country. 79% of the state is some form of christian.

I have had several conversations with people who do not comprehend that catholics are christian. In fact I even had an argument about it here on Lemmy a while back. I wonder if someone will pop out again to try to tell me that catholics aren’t christians.
