How about woodworking? All you need is a handful of hand tools, a piece of wood, and a bit of creativity. You could even just start to carve a little gnome from a piece of broom stick with your pocket knife.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who are your favorite leftist/longform video channels?
2·7 days agoMaybe “Type Ashton?” She takes a look every two weeks or so on an actual issue, and compares it between the US to Europe. From an American perspective rather leftist, I’d assume.
Maybe a little off the beaten track. I use samba shares on a server, and “Total Commander” on my phone / tablet with the smb extension, so I can easily copy stuff back and forth.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your biggest "first world" disappointment?
5·11 days agoIf it comes to flying, mine would be to never have flown on a Twin Otter, ideally with a bush pilot somewhere in remote mountainous boondocks. I’d settle for a Cessna Caravan or a Kodiak etc. instead.

2·13 days agoAh, I just checked. It looks like you can no longer listen to music directly on last.fm, only from other sources like YouTube or Spotify. Well, times change.

3·15 days agoDoes it even still exist? I loved it back then. I never (consciously) did that “scrobble” thing, but I listened to it a lot and found new music there.
Walking my dog in a winter forest.
“Forever” is a long time. Only this universe still has a few billion years to go. Washing my dishes every day for all this time would be boring. No thanks!
Cheap MVNO with enough data and good coverage/no outages. The low price comes from somewhere, I guess…
Same here. My mobile provider blocks the standard VPN ports, and also access to other DNS servers, so I am pretty sure, their low price means they are selling my data. Going through a VPN on a non-standard port to my home network, from where I can go out through DNS over https and also a pi-hole, and being protected by my own firewall, gives me the (false?) feeling of an additional layer of security.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Your entire life gets turned into a movie / short series by the best filmmaker in the world with unlimited budget, do you like your movie? How do you think people would rate it?
2·2 months agoOh, i love these movies, where I can relax in my arm chair and just nod off, then wake up for the news. My movie would be one of those.
I run ClamAV regularly, and it has not found anything on my several systems in the last 20 years. Good to know we’re safe, or are we?
I’m more concerned about rogue browser extensions that may be innocent when you install them, but then change owners, and after an update that you don’t even notice are going to do bad things.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How do you all stay calm with all this pressure
1·3 months agoI mainly protect my company secrets by encrypting it and hope for the best. Else, it’s just the normal stuff, that is nobody else’s business. But then, i am glad that i am old and likely won’t have to live in a dystopian place like this world seems to be going towards.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When does hating religious people start to make you a bigot.
83·3 months agoNothing good comes from hate. Hate is an emotion, and when you’re emotional, you cannot fix or improve things.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your strategy to ensure date night goes well?
111·3 months agoWhy not? You must be young. As an elder I can tell you from experience that one can have sex more than once; before, during and after dinner if needed.
[ condition1 ] && [ condition2 ] && echo "Good" || echo "Bad"
If you’re on mobile, are you using Gboard or the like?
I am pretty sure that every data they ever gathered about you is still there, just marked as hidden. Data is their currency; you don’t throw that away.

A vibe coded Windows 12. Sounds… interesting, mildly…
