Skimming the changes, I see Jellyfin supports books? Like text and comics. So I gotta ask, how’s the audiobook support?
I’m a Plex user who has used Jellyfin in the past, and I feel like I had to hack audiobook support into Plex. It works, but it’s not great. A book server would be interesting to run, though I’m personally more interested in audiobooks for consumption. Books would be an interesting service to offer.
So then it begs the question, is a Jellyfin app (iOS or Android) also a book reader now? If not (as I imagine), is there a dedicated book app? And, does it have the magical feature of having a book keep progress with the audiobook? I think that is the killer feature.
Like others have said, just trust me when I say use Audiobookshelf.
I had to redo my Plex library a little, but it is so much better suited for audiobooks than Plex or Jellyfin.

https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelfIt looks interesting, but I’m on a Mac. Its server requires Windows, Linux, or Docker. I’ve never been able to figure out Docker. Like I said to the last person, I’d like to set up a Linux server, and I’d use Audiobookshelf there.
Audiobookshelf is amazing!
Audiobooks have decent support on the web and app from my brief tests, and yep jellyfin app works for reading books too, its a minimal interface but it works i guess, got a font bigger and smaller button, a few color schemes and a chapter index
I am a believer in different tools for different jobs. I uses Kavita for written books. I use navidrome for music (it also does audiobooks but i haven’t self-hosted audio books yet).
Yeah, Navidrome looks interesting. I use Plex for everything now (though it doesn’t do books) but I kinda want to, as a project, acquire a used Intel 8th/later gen i3 or i5 workstation, throw Linux on it, and run my servers off of that, and just be able to remote in from my desktop. So if I did that, I’d probably run Jellyfin for movies/TV (with Plex as a backup until it’s not viable… I feel like it won’t be for long), Navidrome for music, and some others.
Yep, same here. Navidrome has been excellent, paired with Symphonium on mobile and Kavita has all the features I need. I mean audio books are just audio, if you have the metadata what’s the difference?
