Good thing there aren’t many Christians in Britain, and that their numbers are declining.
This is literally just their normal Islamophobia gussied up in an attempt to make it sound like something more socially acceptable. Stephen Yaxley-Lennon’s already tried pretending to have been reborn in prison and is spamming his Nazi rallies with prayer. It’s the Victimhood step of the fascists’ playbook. “We’re just simple God-fearing Christians and them there scary towel heads are coming to exterminate us!”
Gen Z has actually become more religious than previous generation.

These guys priestly look like the characters that portray a racist, secret Nazi agent in a lot of movies
You can’t convince me this isn’t a satire site.
Its an export from England, not an import.
As a white boy deep in the south region of the US where evangelical Christian is the only Christianity I suggest to you, as a person who has lived in this shithole, that my brothers and sisters in Great Britain nuke this shit from orbit and pour gasoline on the smoking embers. We thought this would not happen here but we let the fucking nuts congregate and feed off each other. It all started when Eisenhower let Billy Graham in the White House because, " what can a little prayer breakfast hurt?" And no one said a thing because why offend " good Christian" people. Stop it now while the chickens are still in the hen house.

Also, he changed the official national motto from “E Pluribus Unum” (out of many, one) to “In God We Trust”.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_We_Trust
The first postage stamps with the motto appeared in 1954. A law passed in July 1955 by a joint resolution of the 84th Congress (Pub. L. 84–140) and approved by President Dwight Eisenhower requires that “In God We Trust” appear on all American currency.
i’m fascinated by the how and why of the fall of christianity in the UK after the 2nd world war. btw the war itself probably contributed but the collapse was steady over the 30 years after it
so the uk is already reacting to the new religious groups like islam and the evangelican african churches and these new idiots will be dealt with in a similar fashion
we are scientist atheists that must protect our democracy and that is not going to change
As someone raised in evangelical Christianity and fought my way out, this guy’s not fucking kidding, and neither is he being overly dramatic. I suggest you act with frightening speed and ruthless efficiency, leaving no blade of grass untouched nor smallest nook or cranny overlooked. As you act, do not waver in your fortitude, and do not for even a moment to allow yourselves to consider that you may be acting “a bit rash.” It is imperative that you cease immediately the spread of this pestilence.
do not for even a moment to allow yourselves to consider that you may be acting “a bit rash.”
Fighting fascism doesn’t mean destroying your ability to self reflect or question yourself. That’s a ridiculous way to think about anything.
Edit: apparently I’m wrong. The guys who never allow themselves to question their actions or thoughts are typically known as the good guys.
No, you’re right in general, but context and frame of reference are a thing. Here the discussion is specifically around reacting to the rise of Christian Nationalism.
This is Karl Popper’s Paradox of Tolerance. If these christofascists are allowed to take power, they will aggressively erode tolerance of anyone else. And based on precedent they will lie and manipulate to get that power. The response must be swift and ironclad.
But knowing the UK cultural propensity for excessive politeness and unhealthy avoidance of social discomfort, they’re probably screwed.
But knowing the UK cultural propensity for excessive politeness and unhealthy avoidance of social discomfort, they’re probably screwed.
This is a solid misunderstanding of, well, everything. Britain takes great zeal in tearing down those who purport to be moral. See: British Tabloids and British Satire. And as for religious leaders trying to make a political issue, that’s a big nope, and they will be savagely ridiculed for it.
The only way these weirdos can survive is by staying under the radar, like the mormons and the scientologists. Once they start to insinuate themselves in public discourse they’re ripped apart.
Oh? I’d be delighted for me to be wrong and you to be right on this.
But the backlash to my comment is based on a strawman argument because people cannot imagine you can partially agree with a caveat. The implication of the downvotes here is that if I would say this, I must be a secret fascist. There’s absolutely nothing objectively incorrect about what I said, in context or not. The only reason context would matter here is if you make assumptions about why I made this comment, and that requires a leap. Which apparently, people are very happy to make.
I only see one other reply to your comment, and I’m not sure it’s making these assumptions. Maybe you could point to the ‘backlash’?
Regardless, I already said I think you’re right in the grand scheme of things and shared my input. But I didn’t write the original comments you were responding to and have no need or desire to defend those.
The many downvotes is what I am referring to
Nobody here’s against self-reflection or questioning or critical thinking. These comments come from people who explicitly did do self-reflection and left. The ones who don’t are still in the evangelical system, I presume.
Believe it or not though, those things have an empirical or social component. Namely, if seemingly rational actors (by all means grill them) are giving such grave warnings, which is an astonishingly rare event… Heed them.
This is more prudence and modesty than mindless or naive deference, an ironically fine line given the subject matter. Lastly, this isn’t simply a black-and-white matter of “good and bad” however comfortable it is to give in to the impulse to reduce everything to such. Reminder: following said impulse doesn’t make you any more moral than the next person.
Yeah, the Tolerance paradox, tolerate these toxic shit stains and this is how you end up
As a white boy from Idaho, I second this. We ran their first wave out in the early 00s, but the next wave trying to create a white nationalist haven was far worse than the old ones who contented themselves with cosplay Conderacy/Nazism and only left their compounds once a year for a parade. There’s no shame anymore, no edgelord “I’m a Nazi” attitude. They’ve normalized the doctrine by being average neighbors rather than radical weirdos in a bunker. They’re invading our local offices, school boards, city councils, and other minor offices. One challenged our governor (a Regan-esque pos but not total MAGA) and while he lost, still got 30% of the vote. They’re buying up our remote farming communities and turning them into ideological enclaves. They’re well educated, and many are former cops or military. Out here it’s creating a strange bedfellow situation. We’ve got urban leftists and libs, east state Mormons who are starting to recognize MAGA evangelicals aren’t their ally, and the 2A an-cap libertarians who hate the Feds. Fun times. But seriously, don’t let these people get a foot in the door at any level.
Can not upvote this enough. This man speaks the truth, and reason. He is not crazy. I’ve had a similar experience, and if anything, I think this isn’t raising the warning flag high enough for what could happen in the UK here.
Too bad there’s no “new world” to ship all the fundies off to this time.
Mars?
You thought it wouldn’t happen there? Pretty sure most of the rest of us knew it always had.
Britain has been Christian Nationalist for centuries
These cretins were kicked out of England because they tried so valiantly to tell everyone how to act as a Christian. Then, they came to the new world claiming persecution. All these butthurt babies are now gonna do a repeat. 400 years later here we are.
Where you gonna send em this time? Mars?
They love god so much – why not arrange the meeting?
ahh OceanGate cruise
Oh shit. You lot need to nip these assholes in the bud.
Thats exactly what they did last time, ship all the fundy religious nuts overseas, the Massachusetts bay colony was full of religious exiles deemed too “extra” for post-reformation Europe… And look where we are now.
I am SO tired of these religious fundie/extremist nutjobs.
They are only hypocrite religious. Nothing of what they are doing is even close to Jesus’s core teaching “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31). They are giving Christians a bad reputation.
Christians gave themselves a bad reputation, then as now. Their faith never recovered from the Black Death, which finally broke the back of the church, and ended their stranglehold over almost all of Europe.
They later tried to break the peasants with their various Inquisitions, killing thousands more, but no matter how many people the Christians tortured to death, they were never able to achieve their former glory and power; they have diminished every year since.
They’ve lost half of their faithful in the USA over the past 20 years. PRAISE GOD
As an actual bible believing Christian, I would like to officially distance myself from all this nonsense.
Of course you would. That would keep you from having to fix it.
TBF, I don’t think they can fix it any more than we can.
Religion is a business plan wrapped up in propaganda.
Once again being a person deep in the evangelical South in the US I have people who say they are good Christians over look all this and go along to get long. It is time for those " good Christians" to open their mouths and start denouncing this.
Bible Believing Christian? Gross.
None of them follows Jesus’s teachings, they just abuse his name.
Jesus teaches that He will return at the head of a Holy Army, to kill all who won’t accept Him as Lord.
“They” can’t even come close to the horrors Jesus promised. The lake of blood will be miles wide, and as high as a horse’s bridle (according to Him).
His billions of victims won’t even have peace in death, as He promises them eternal torment in a lake of fire (according to Him).
Which shows that you did not understand the bible. Forget the Apocalypse. It should never have made it to the book, and has nothing to do with what Jesus preached.
I understand the Bible… it appears that you’ve never read it.
Jesus Himself preached that He will return at the head of a Holy Army to crush humanity, you have no idea what is going on. Jesus Himself described the eternal torments of Hell.
You should probably read the Bible so you know what I’m talking about, and stop spreading blatant falsehoods, which, by the way, is heresy and condemns you to Hell.
Even if you remove “the Apocalypse” from the Bible completely (by that I take it you mean Revelation), the quotes of Jesus remain in the New Testament elsewhere. You just ignore them.
Disgusting revisionism of core Christian doctrine. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Do you think He promised to come back to Earth for hugs? No. Like He said, He came not to bring peace, but the sword.
Funny, though. I’ve read the Bible several times, but I do not recall any line of Jesus returning with an army to crush humanity. Could you supply book and verse?
And because I know the Bible I disregard the Apocalypse (or Revelation, if you prefer).
That’s why you reveal that you don’t know the Bible, you should read it a few more times because you just don’t get it yet.
Sure… you can choose to reject John and Revelation, even though he was a disciple and the favorite of Jesus. But, then, you must reject a good deal of the gospels. Like John 3:16
That is pretty funny.
I’ll refrain from quoting John the apostle, since you have rejected him, even though he was an apostle and knew Jesus personally. Since you can’t recall, you really should read Revelation and refresh your memory. I would provide book and verse, but you already rejected Revelation and by inference the author of same, right?
Hmm, let’s try Matthew
“Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory.” – Matthew 24:30
Do you reject the words of Matthew the apostle, as well as John the apostle? Do you just know he is also wrong?
Why do you think all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see Jesus coming on the clouds of Heaven with great power and glory? The Bible describes why in great detail, yet you reject it because you know better than John the apostle and Matthew the apostle, right?
You have absolutely no ground to stand on Biblically, your knowledge is from your imagination.
So, keep reading. It will sink in and you’ll figure it out someday.
None of the passages you quotes backs up any of your crazy claims. Anything better to offer?
No, your kind should take responsibility
I wish your religious leaders had years ago.
As a Christian in faith. I believe the bible needs to fade into obscurity. We need a new narrative that defines the sense of love, compassion & spiritual growth we seek. Fuck the dogma & the original sin idea that has been used to oppress and strike fear into peoples hearts and minds. Fear of god is spiritual abuse. That is what Christianity teaches right out of the gate. 🤦
If it’s possible to just retcon all of the shit that makes up the foundation of your religion and create a “new narrative” doesn’t that just prove that it’s all made up bullshit? Like isn’t faith by its very nature “blind” and the fact that you assert that you can reshape it to your tastes just means that you don’t actually believe in this as much as you think you do?
Of course it’s all made up. Is it the divine word? Well then we have to assume that there is in fact a divine being. I’m not too sure of that one way or another. I don’t try to prove it or not prove its existence. The made by human scripture is a collection of stories, tales and fables from a long bygone era. Now how we choose to perceive and apply those lessons are fully upon us. Some use it as a guideline for daily living down to how one dress and what type of diet one may consume. Others, not so rigid may take it for simply the message of Jesus (Grace, redemption, forgiveness, acceptance, calling out corruption in the name of god, empathy, being a steward of the earth) He is only in the thing for the first half of the Pt.2 section of the script btw.
It’s okay to let go of the label and just come to terms with the fact that you have good values, you know?
In one comment you chastise for believing and not taking responsibility, and in this comment you chastise for still believing while trying to fix things. Is it safe to assume that anyone who finds religious creeds acceptable is inferior to you
I guess what I am saying is that there has to be some type of reckoning day regarding this matter. So many people have cherry picked the bible into a grotesque monster of a religion with all sorts of negative implications branching into the government at the deepest level. Meanwhile, there are a multitude of individuals that have some virtuous values, a respect and responsibility of community but aren’t willing to rock the boat when it comes to saying, absolutely not in our name. And you have some that are opposing the bastardized versions. It has changed so much since I was a child (mid 1970’s). Unfortunately those that cherry pick and choose “The Good Stuff”, are labeled heretics. I am talking evangelical mega church super faith based as opposed to gray haired aging hippie NPR listening Unitarians. One side is happy is thrilled LGBTQ is attempting to be made obscene. The other has a 🌈 flag and says welcome all. I’m with the latter congregation. I just believe that we need a new story. We don’t have to forget the last one.
Aaaand of course its through Reform MPs. Why did I expect otherwise
How much do you want to bet they don’t even go to church? I’m an atheist and I’m more christian than them
I wonder how harsh their stance on this foreign refugee will be
did they not learn from brexit?, no they dint.
Yeah that isn’t gonna work here
Yup. People don’t like religion at the best of times.
