Google is barreling in this direction too, it’s just more roundabout with the data collection. e.g. want to watch a YouTube video? You need to sign in to confirm you aren’t a bot. No account? Just sign up… Oh, and give us your phone number. This video has war footage, you need to confirm you aren’t a child. Etc.

Granted, this is way worse, because Apple is preemptively caving to a foreign power. This is the same company that used to stand up to the FBI.
