Punch-a-Fascist Day
It is legal to punch a Nazi in the face. No consequences. Actually you are encouraged. Maybe you get free sundaes for each Nazi you knock out.
(*Nazi must either be a known Nazi or you must view Nazi symbols/tattoos)
It would bring about a sense of community and also put the fear back into garbage that should just fuck the hell off.
(And let the down votes begin by all the little dicked Nazis…)
My birthday. Everyone gives me gifts. It affects the world in that they all have to give me gifts.
And what if someone won’t gift you something?

Off with their heads.
The Purge, but it’s only legal to murder anyone with a net worth of $1b or more. Anyone who is homeless gets to start 1 day earlier. It lasts all weekend.
Sure, this has a chance of eliminating a billionaire, but I can think of two critical errors here.
-
What’s stopping them from just visiting/moving to an island for a weekend, month, year, or more, to prevent them from being killed?
 -
Just because someone is dead doesn’t mean that their wealth goes away or reverts to the general populous. I’m not up on how many kids Elon Musk has nowadays (nor do I care to learn about it), but he has over 10 kids, last I checked. And because it’s not public record or hasn’t been leaked, we don’t know if any of them will inherit any of it. But chances are, they do. This then becomes something like a monarchical power problem. (I also don’t recall what it’s called, but there is a thought experiment where you try to determine if killing said person will be the best option to bring about a more peaceful, prosperous, and/or high quality of life in said country, if they are. We have a long line of historical events that often show that by killing one of the ‘evil’ persons, you do run the risk of replacing them with someone even more ‘evil’ than the person before them.

People on these corporate boards will clamor for the top position during a power vacuum situation. And so killing a person at the head of ‘all of this’ doesn’t really resolve the issue at hand. I’m a dreamer, and I’m not the only one. I believe that this all boils down to the need for a grassroots movement to replace the people in power in our governments and change the systems that do not or no longer serve the majority of people well enough or at all.

No billionaire day.
It occurs anytime someone amasses $1 billion. They’re given the choice to donate the entire billion to public welfare programs or be tarred and feathered and paraded through the streets.
And then donate an entire million to the public welfare programs they don’t own.
And then donate an entire
millionbillion to the public welfare programs they don’t own.
Quiet day.
We park all the cars, ground the airplanes, turn off the AC to the minimum, etc and just enjoy the sounds of nature for once.
This aligns well with the “let’s stop killing earth day” that I had planned. I’m on board!
Turn the lights off so we can see the stars at night.
There was a Simpsons episode that went like this
I remember seeing stars at night when I was in my mother’s village in Taishan, China, barely any electricity there, no internet, not sure if there were cellular, but I do remember a landline phone.
The cities is a whole different story, massive pollution. Doubt much could be seen.
I don’t know if anywhere in the US is even as remote/isolated as that village.
I think the night sky visibility goes like this:
Rural China > Rural US > Urban US> Urban China. At least before 2010, no idea what its like now.
economic reset day were all money and resources in the world is gathered up and equally divided among the populace.
I think we should just call it ‘Eat the Rich’ day.
Happens on days ending with ‘y’? Yeah, I’m cool with that.
honestly once a year would be fine. I mean its a reset so unequality is limited to what can be done in a year.
I can’t wait for the yearly capitalist speed runs to occur!
Then money wouldn’t be money. Dad always said, “If making money was easy, everyone would do it.”
The US government could give every one of us $1,000,000 tomorrow. Would you have them do it? Would anyone go to work next week? How would you buy goods and services when everyone is a millionaire? “Gonna need $50K to mow your lawn.”
We could be 100x more equitable without breaking out the paint roller.
I did not say just money.
Resources and money are basically the same thing. Spread it around equally, well, kinda like the opening of Snow Crash:
…once the Invisible Hand has taken all those historical inequities and smeared them out into a broad global layer of what a Pakistani brickmaker would consider to be prosperity…
(Awesome novel about late-stage capitalism and arguably the grandson of Gibson’s cyberpunk fiction.)
Yes, our needs could be met at current economic levels and population. But as population and education increase, people want more and more and more. It’s wired into our monkey brains. If everyone has the same shit, many will want more shit. Spread it all around evenly, you’ve only created hyper-inflation.
I don’t have an answer. We didn’t evolve to work in groups of more than 150, 200 max.
honestly no one will have the same as that would not work. it would be a combination of cash, land, stocks, etc. People could elect to keep things they have up to their share so they don’t have to move or such. Ill be honest I threw it out as more an ideololized thing. Would rather we tax and regulate so that wealth accumulation became harder the more you have (rather than being harder till you hit escape velocity and it then being easier) and use tax to make sure their is a floor of folks being able to have essentials but given the question I threw this in as my choice.
Yes! Our only hope of digging out is to make the case for taxing the snot out of the rich. We can’t all be rich, but a rising tide lifts all boats.
I remember from my home country there was a holiday called 儿童节 (Children’s Day), on June 1, where we are supposed to like idk parents are supposed to appreciate/cherish their children or something. Well I don’t remember them ever gave me any actual gifts (other than like clothing, which IMO doesn’t count) or if it was just another hollow, empty, meaningless holiday.
We should have something like that. Maybe reworded as “Childhood Rememberance Day” (童年回念节?) or something. Where people just talk about the good aspects of their childhood, or a childhood they wished they had, revisit places they visited as a child, re-experience childhood for a day, just forget about the adulting for 24 hours. And of course, celebrate their children’s present moment too, let their kids have fun, don’t yell at them, tell them how much they are loved, and actually show affection.
My childhood was so confusing, I remember being told that I was loved, but then I also remember moments where I got yelled at, and also those fights with my older brother.
I have zero memories of actually doing anything fun on 儿童节, just another phrase on the calandar.
Honestly we need like an entire week of this holiday. Adulthood is cruel, childhood (with the right parents, of course) is beautiful.
On this day in my country, June 1, often they say on TV that this is International Children’s Day or something similar. In most families in our country, it seems to me that on this day childrens do not receive any special gifts, but sometimes just go with their parents to a cafe or a park or a cinema or something similar to a museum. Although without special gifts, it’s still a good pastime.
Kill a Nazi day
It’s called Liber8 Day, Mr. Sadler
Flush the floaters day. Every year we guillotine the 10 (+an additional 10 each successive year) richest people on the planet. Once everyone has baseline access to food, housing, healthcare, education, etc, we put the guillotines on standby and instead have an annual feast. If conditions backslide, or if we’ve failed to reach the feast benchmark by the 10th anniversary, we switch from guillotining the 10 richest individuals to the 10 richest families with case-by-case exceptions being considered for anyone in the bloodlines in question who have shown that they’re worth keeping alive.
I…love this idea.
I cannot think of anything clever or anything, so I’m gonna just say international cozy day where you get as cozy as you can and if possible help someone else get cozy and comfortable.
Basically a day where you have to be nice and can help make other people’s life better and more cozy as well. Even if it’s just something as small as giving a homeless person a blanket or clean clothes. Or bigger, like providing shelter to a friend in a domestic abuse situation. All without laws getting in the way of helping people.
Though this is just an absolute pipedream because I can think of a few countries where they would ban this holiday or warp it to be more about being selfish than helping others.
Pajama day. Know someone who doesn’t have pajamas? GIVE THEM PAJAMAS. Or a fuzzy bath robe. Or a snuggee. And tea or coffee.
I’m reminded how in hospitals they keep blankets inside heaters to give out warm blankets to patients or people waiting in the ER. TIME TO MAKE BLANKET OVENS A THING.
Coffee and tea cakes not required, but heavily recommended. Decorations can be anything from cottage core to the plushest bean bags. Soft, plush, or fuzzy is KING.
Don’t use your connected devices for 24 hours day.
“EMPs have been activated, please enjoy the holiday, do not resist.”
Dragon Hunting Day
Anyone who bags an obscene wealth hoarding serpent gets to be the Honored Hero of the feast.
After the first couple years we’ll need to set some boundaries and make it figurative though
May 1st, the day outdoor fuckin’ starts. I think the celebration is obvious, and it think it would help build empathy and compassion for our cumpatriots, bettering society.
Okay, Jonathan.
Deconstruction day. You deconstruct why you believe what you believe, and if you don’t have a good reason, you abandon that belief.
Will there be a dedicated clergy to help the majority of souls with their critical thinking skills?
Dad popped up drunk at a big college party one night. Went upstairs and saw he had 15 kids sitting around the room in a rough circle. As I walked in I heard, “YOU! Change places with him and argue his point. Switch up.”
Confused looks, brains readjusted, off they went, back to the debate.
Dad always said if you couldn’t argue the other side, you didn’t understand the argument. I have never found that notion to be false.
(Cue the posts telling me their favorite point is unarguable, simply right. I can present the other side of anything. Even if I know it’s bullshit, there is another side, and it’s likely more logical than you think.)
You don’t like Festivus?
I far prefer to celebrate Newton’s Birthday
He changed the world… hell he’s largely responsible for our modern world
I celebrate with my family by watching science lectures
