I’d like to start an instance about “bragging”. It’d be an instance to celebrate small wins. Like “I did a thing I’ve been dreading!” I’m almost positive I have ADHD despite that my mother never bothered to have me checked because fuck me, im just a problem right? Well I’d like to set up an instance for people to kind of celebrate doing the things that we absolutely hate doing. “I got my house refinanced and saved $40 a month!” Awesome! I bet that took a lot of effort! Good on you doing the thing!

My doctor said if I have ADHD, that it’s not bad enough to do anything about. And I’ve heard stories of others getting the same thing. So it would be more of a positive support group for people who struggle with those types of things. Like, when I get happy about doing/finishing something mundane, people are like “uh …cool” cause they don’t get the struggle of doing something so mundane. It’s so much of a struggle that others don’t understand. So when you struggle with this kind of thing, saying “I cleaned the bathroom” gets a response like “that sucks” but that was a win for this person. I want a place for people to brag about knocking things off their never-ending list, to celebrate the win, even if it’s nothing to others.

So my question is how do I do this? How do I make a new instance?

Edit: just to stave off the main communication issue, I meant community, not Instance. If anyone has voyager and has done it can help, that’d be great. And I appreciate all help, both previous to the edit and after. Thank you all for the much more supportive place than reddit.

Yes, community is what I meant. The dull things don’t feel like the right feel. This is less about just being boring and a normal human doing lame shit, and more of a support system encouraging those effects. I may be having troubles explaining the difference, but those communities are more about chores than struggles.

Those things that feel like torture to people with ADHD, not just being boring. There’s a huge difference.

Ah, I think I understand. Although, my take on those dullster communities is that they’re less about being a boring human but more of a recognition that a lot of tasks are pretty mundane but deserve a place to be discussed/celebrated. There may be value to be found in posting your successes and discussing them.

I don’t know of any communities that are specifically about what you’re looking for, but I guess you could also check in !adhd@lemmy.world and ask.

Thank you! This is the answer I was looking for! Not to take away from the others, before I made the clarification. But this is the answer I was looking for. Thank you.

To be completely honest, I suggest getting to know Lemmy first. Trying to run a community when you can’t even figure out how to create one is a sign that you’ll run into other even bigger walls. It’s definitely like trying to run before you can even walk.

I ran 2 subs on reddit concurrently by myself. Literally the only thing I’m looking for is how to start it, not run it. The bottleneck is where to find such information, because honestly, it was pretty easy on reddit. Literally all I’m asking is how to start it.

First, Lemmy is not reddit. They are similar platforms, but they share still drastically different. More importantly, I’m specifically talking about the platform, not the general idea of managing a “community” in the broader sense.

For example, knowing modlogs exist and understanding the modlogs and that they are public. Also understanding how users from different instances interact with other instances. Where to find the moderator tools and information regarding moderation.

It seems you want to run a community entirely off of a mobile device using an app, but none of the apps are really fully compatible with moderation tools. The best way to moderate is via a browser.

There’s just more to running a community than just clicking the create button, deciding on a name, and posting content.
