Michael Gloss studied Human Ecology at Middlebury College in Vermont and was described by friends as an eco-activist, women’s rights supporter, and anti-fascist.

Michael Gloss, 21, was the son of CIA Deputy Director for Digital Innovation Julianne Gallina Gloss, and Iraq war veteran Larry Gloss.

Before arriving in Russia on August 13, 2023, Gloss was travelling around Europe. On his Vkontakte page bio, he wrote: “I ran away from home (and) traveled the world. I hate fascism.”

On April 4, 2024, he was killed, likely during a Russian offensive near Bakhmut, however, his burial in the U.S. did not take place until December 2024, Important Stories reports.

        Ended up answering my own question once I remembered the button that sent me to the lemmy.zip version of the thread, seems like that instance is failing to fetch the updates rather than this being a browser/app issue. That’s also why I’m double-replying to this comment rather than editing my other one here. Might be worth a message to the .zip instance admin(s) in case something’s busted, just going to check around first and see if it’s a known issue.

        Edit that you might not see for a while: Looks like they’ve been doing some updates and other maintenance recently, might just take some time for the dust to settle from all of that. Can see the federation status between .world and .zip here.

          Interesting, looks like it’s visible from almost all other instances, although I did find a couple where it’s not. I can’t see any differences due to lemmy version either (most instances are 19.11, where the edit is visible, but midwest.social is also on .11 and it’s not visible-- whereas lemmy.nz is on .10 and it’s also not there). Maybe I’ll shoot a message over to admin like you suggested.

            Seems like they’re aware of ongoing issues, maybe give it a couple days and see if things improve first. In any event, my pleasure. Gotta preserve art when you find it.
