Play into your strengths. Being neurodiverse means your brain is wired differently and you have amazing skills other people can only dream of. Use them and focus on them not the negatives… possibilities will open up

I know that any task not done immediately will be permanently deleted from my attention span so I hyper focus on getting the entire task done in one go so I can forget about it. My annual review said I am one of the highest producers in the group.

The most effective one I know I call “eating the breadcrumbs”

First I follow the breadcrumbs since Neurotypicals and some neurodivergents like talking about themselves and I listen for indicators of things they like and respond w questions that align w them.

Then I eat the breadcrumbs by maintaining a practiced look upon my face that seems like I’m enjoying a snack and pursue each chance I get to make a joke so that I can actually enjoy the conversation. (Alcohol helps A LOT with this part).

It’s a lot like social masking, but it’s targeted at an individual and w a bit more depth instead of a just a public facade.

It’s also more draining than ordinary masking; so I mostly use it in social situations than I know will replenish my energy.

If a gathering seems like maybe a host gift situation but maybe not, skip presents for the human hosts and get something for their pets. Picking out wine for a gift would give me hives, everyone will be much happier with treats for the dogs.
