I’ve been lifting weights consistently for a couple years and consider myself to be in good shape. It’s time to come off the winter bulk and I figured that starting up jogging would be an easy way to improve my conditioning and start dropping some weight, so I went out for my first jog yesterday after work.

The experience was humbling, it was shocking. In my youth I was an avid runner but have been out of it for a long time, I could not believe how difficult it was running while carrying this extra weight! For anyone else going through the same thing, hang in there

    Welcome brother.

We got a dog last year that likes walks (she was a street dog rescue). 3-4 times a day we would go for 40 minute walk, some slight incline in areas. I was wrecked and exhausted the first month or so.

Don’t rule out running still! Cycling and swimming are both great but - especially as we age - our bone density tends to decrease and minor falls (or from a bike) can cause bigger issues.

The good news is anaerobic exercise is easy to make progress in! Your body will adapt fairly quickly and running will get easier.

The bad news is your body will quickly lose that ability again if you don’t maintain it.
