I love Calibre, was waiting on a jailbreak for my new gen kindle but I don’t even need to anymore. It auto converts whatever epub I’ve got to the Amazon format automatically and I just don’t connect to WiFi in case I do want to jailbreak. It’s so easy to use
I have found all my roles on there and all but one through the one click easy apply. That’s the only benefits - good (maybe best in the USA) pool of jobs and mostly reasonable application process. I ignore the posts, limit visibility and only connect with people I’ve met or worked with directly.
It truly sucks though, full of spammy engagement bait and bad recruiters. It’s tough, but personally I think having an account is worth it even if I ignore until it’s time for another job hunt.
That’s a very good point. Hopefully the underlying openness of the AT protocol enables homebrewed alternatives where you can simply port your account over, though the threat of this seems like a non-issue for activity pub from the start.
I’ve just installed the loops beta on iOS. I don’t really care for short form video content in general but here’s to hoping open social media can become more mainstream.
Sorry if this isn’t allowed, it’s maybe not strictly fediverse but I like skylight from Bluesky. Bsky has a lot of public figures and brands which I think is a necessary evil in pulling critical mass in times where an exodus is occurring because of political censorship. I tried skylight on iOS and it’s fine. Obviously not the same grade of content as the TikTok/reels/shorts but after linking my bsky account with already curated feeds of my interests I find that it combines them in an easily digestible way. Hopefully some big content creators explore their options because they do exist and are ready to be used.
Arch is incredibly user friendly - gets completely out of the way of the user so they can do exactly what they want how they want.
Arch is not very beginner friendly - depending on what you consider a beginner, it will not hold your hand except for the install process where it provides a walkthrough script. If you have configured Linux before it will be familiar but you may have to read documentation. It’s not designed to be difficult, but it is designed for people who know why the choices they are making matter. If you do not understand then there will be a gap and that may feel a bit frustrating, but it is on you to bridge that gap.
