Dear Christians and Muslims who use Lemmy, you all believe in an evil entity that did not obey God. It‘s Satan for the Christian’s and Shaitan for the Muslims.

But does he have a weakness? How do you not fall into the devil‘s trap?

Edit: I forgot to say that my intention here isn’t really “religious”. I‘m just working on a story which includes the devil

He has a lot of trouble getting and staying out of abusive relationships with sexually deviant dictators.

The same way you don’t fall into any monotheistic group.
Critical thinking and healthy amount of scepticism about some people who may or may not have lived 2000 years ago and how those words are twisted to suit the speaker.

Defeat it? That’s not for us, nor is it necessary. Just avoid temptation (as in, if you’re a man with a healthy libido and poor self control, don’t get drunk and go to clubs with the lads/don’t get too friendly with your flirty co-workers, for instance [don’t just put yourself in times and places you know will be dangerous]), repent in earnest when you fuck up, ask God for help and make amends and you should be alright when the Day comes. 👍

Self restraint is a ‘muscle’ (and it gets easier once your prefrontal cortex is fully formed, lol), but you need to have the right mindset (the proper ideological system) to make it easier for you. Just going on vibes and good instincts can get you far, but if your culture is rotten/misguided you might fall more easily.

Following what I have learned during my Catholic upbringing:

    Spearfighting.

One of the neighbouring churches we went to was named after St. Michael and has this totally kick-ass statue on the side altar showing St. Michael stabbing the evil devil/dragon thing with his spear.

Apart from that, almost all Christians where I live don’t believe in Satan as an actual entity, but more as a helpful symbol to illustrate the abstract concept of evil.

Church in my region generally revolves more around the positive compassionate concept of “Be nice to each other” than relying on a supernatural bogeyman that tries to lay you traps.

Not sure if this is a hot take or not, buts let’s assume God and Satan are real.

The Devil and God work together. The whole point of Satan and Hell is to test faith. The Devil tempts you as a test and is meant to be the “bad cop” to God’s “good cop”. In the Bible, he’s known as “the adversary”, so who’s to say that he isn’t actually a force for good and just testing? Maybe Hell is just NOT getting into Heaven and forced to roam eternity in Limbo?

I doubt you will find many religious people on lemmy.

And for the sake of providing an entertaining answer, DOOM had the most intriguing philosophy: shooting demons with a shotgun.

    (Disclaimer: I am not religious)

Of course it’s religious! Shooting demons is one of my religious rights as a member of the satanic temple. We believe that legal things should be allowed without prejudice. We also believe in following our best understanding of science, which is why shooting demons is ok because how else do you get rid of them?
